Open Call 2014 – The Final Nine

Uncertain States Open Call 2014

Uncertain States are proud to announce the nine selected artists that will show in our inaugural ‘Open Call 2014’ Exhibition and will be featured in our next publication of the UCS Broadsheet Issue 19.

Our ethos is simple. To engage with and disseminate the best of creative lens-based art.

This project would not have been possible without the generosity of our selection team. Chosen for there diversity across the arts, as practicing lens-based artists, critics, academics and writers, they have generously offered their time and enthusiasm. A vast reservoir of knowledge and experience in their respective fields bought to bear on their final decision. Thank you.

All the submissions where available to the judges and this was crucial to our approach. We asked each of them to champion one artist, to respond to their own subjective resonance to their work. There was no discussion, no consensual compromises, just an individuals’ passion for each of the artists finally chosen. Without exception, our esteemed selectors have verbalised that they have been able to witness some very exciting projects from very committed artists from around the country. Noting their impression of the high standard of content presented and often the difficulty in coming to a single decision.

Our profound thanks go to our selectors, whose names follow with own their choice of artist.  Ucs. would also like to thank Mary George for liaising with the selectors and preparing all the submitted work for presentation and also to the Arts Council for their support which enabled us to reach out to our fellow artists. Also for the continued support from Four Corners Gallery, for the space to show the final work in our search for the best of British Contemporary Photography.

Uncertain States Issue 19 will be launched at the ‘Open Call 2014’ exhibition in October. There will be published statements from our selectors accompanying the artists work, but importantly please put dates in the diary so as to enjoy the final artifacts on the wall.

We hope to see you all there to celebrate the achievements of our ‘Nine’.
